Striking Alberta teachers seek to have bargaining talks resume Tuesday

Oct 9, 2025 | 12:29 PM

The union representing 51,000 striking Alberta teachers says it has asked the province to resume negotiations starting Tuesday.

The Alberta Teachers’ Association says it is making the move based on the success of recent ongoing unofficial conversations with the province.

It seeks formal talks to begin Tuesday with the provincial negotiator, the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association, and a mediator.

The association declined to provide further details.

Teachers walked off the job Monday amid stalemated discussions over wages and working conditions.

Overcrowded classrooms are a key sticking point, with the province previously promising to hire 3,000 more teachers.
