Structure Fire reported at Peace River Belle Centre

The Town of Peace River is sharing more details on a fire that took place at the old Bell Centre building Monday.

At approximately 3:45 a.m. the Peace River Fire department responded to reports of a structure fire on 96 Street, observing smoke coming from the roof and visible flames through an open window.

Crews conducted defensive tactics from outside, after they forced to withdraw from the interior due to extreme heat and an unstable roof.

Town officials say fire crews were on scene for roughly 11 hours and were able to extinguish the blaze, but the building sustained extensive damage and the roof remains unstable.

The building was vacant at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
