Night Light Walk set for Thursday

Oct 22, 2025 | 2:22 PM

The Night Light Walk in support of Odyssey House and Serenity Place is set for Thursday, Oct. 23.

It will start at 7 p.m. on the field east of St. Joe’s High School. Organizers say participants should arrive around 6:15.

The walk is meant to raise money and awareness for housing support and second-stage/transitional housing.

Second-stage housing is for those who no longer need to get away from abusive relationships but still need support.

“The Night Light Walk helps us offer more than just shelter; it helps us offer a path to independence. Serenity Place at Odyssey House provides the crucial next step for survivors, and the generosity of Royal LePage and the community ensures we can continue to offer the resources and stability needed for women and children to rebuild their lives,” says Odyssey House executive director Mikaela Bernson in a news release.

That same release says that on any given day in Canada, 3,000 women and 2,500 kids are living in an emergency shelter.

The people taking part in the walk will go three kilometres and carry lights, meant to symbolize hope for an end to domestic violence.

Anyone who wants to take part can still register online. They must commit to raising at least $50.

The goal is to collect $15,700.

Grande Prairie is one of a dozen cities across Canada to hold an event like this.
