West Fraser Timber reports third-quarter loss

Oct 23, 2025 | 1:45 PM

West Fraser Timber is reporting a third-quarter loss of $204 million on sales of $1.307 billion.

The owner of the OSB plant located south of Grande Prairie says the North American Engineered Wood Products division lost $15 million.

The lumber and pulp, and paper sectors also lost money, with the European Engineered Wood Products division recording a profit.

West Fraser says higher mortgage rates are still creating what it refers to as “supply and demand imbalances ” in a news release.

This is coming on top of US tariffs on softwood lumber.

West Fraser also recorded a second-quarter loss this year of $24 million on sales of $1.532 billion.

West Fraser says there are some good signs in the medium term that residential construction will pick up.

Those include better interest and inflation rates; more homes in the US getting older, and more people reaching the age where they may think about buying a home.
