Comp. students holding walkout to protest teachers’ strike legislation

Oct 30, 2025 | 6:00 AM

Students at the Composite High School in Grande Prairie are taking part in a province-wide walkout today (Thursday, October 30).

It will take place from 10:15-11:30 a.m.

An email from the co-presidents of the Student Council says that “students are passionate about showing support for our teachers and will engage in peaceful protest during the walkout in (the) face of the passing of Bill 2.”

The province passed the legislation earlier this week to force an end to the teachers’ strike. Classes resumed on Wednesday.

Organizers say the local events will include activities and “speeches from multiple students.”

Students from 45 schools across Alberta will take part in similar protests.
