Warkentin releases statement on Conservative MP switching to Liberal caucus

Nov 5, 2025 | 9:42 AM

After the Liberal government announced the federal budget on Tuesday, Nov. 4, Nova Scotia Conservative MP Chris d’Etremont decided to switch sides.

d’Etremont left his Conservative caucus and crossed the floor to join the Liberals.

This move puts the minority government just two seats away from becoming a majority.

Grande Prairie-Mackenzie MP and Chief Opposition Whip Chris Warkentin released a statement on d’Etremont’s actions. The statement can be read below:

“Conservatives don’t see how Chris d’Entremont can possibly vote for the Liberal budget after running to make life more affordable for Canadians, with smaller deficits and a resilient economy.

“In April, he supported our Conservative platform to help young Canadians who couldn’t find jobs and had to move back into their parents’ basements.

“Today, he decided he apparently wants to break those promises so he can vote in favour of the industrial carbon tax, driving up food costs, and the fuel standards the Liberals are imposing.

“Conservatives are disappointed he let his own personal grievances of not getting elected Deputy Speaker get in the way of his promises, and that he agrees with Liberals that Canadians will have to sacrifice more for their failures.

“Mr. d’Entremont must explain to his constituents why he broke his promises to them.”
