Nov 7, 2025 | 6:00 AM

Snow and winter conditions have arrived, and RCMP are reminding drivers to take extra precautions.

Mounties provided a list of tips to keep residents safe when travelling on the road:

  • Remove all snow from your vehicle before each trip to improve visibility
  • Allow yourself extra travel time in poor weather
  • Ensure your headlights are working and always on
  • Increase your following and braking distance on icy roads
  • Travel with a fully charged cell phone for emergency situations
  • Slow down and drive to conditions

They also suggest keeping an emergency kit with the following supplies:

  • Thermal blanket or sleeping bag
  • Extra clothing and footwear
  • Candle and waterproof matches
  • First aid kit
  • Flashlight with extra batteries
  • Booster cables
  • Ice scraper and snow brush
  • Sand, road salt or kitty litter
  • Shovel

With Environment Canada forecasting flurries and the potential for freezing rain today (Friday, Nov. 7), Drivers are encouraged to stay up to date on changing road conditions by using 511 Alberta.
