Indigenous Veterans Day 2025 Ceremony held at Grande Prairie’s Veterans Memorial Park

Grande Prairie’s Veterans Memorial Park & Interpretive Centre held a ceremony for Indigenous Veterans Day Saturday, November 8.

Members of local First Nations and Metis communities, gathered to honor the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit individuals who served Canada in the military and law enforcement.

This year the theme for Indigenous Veterans Day in Grande Prairie was “Warrior Spirt, Enduring Legacy”

Particular focus was placed on the discrimination that Indigenous veterans encountered upon their return home from both World Wars, and how they did not have access to their pensions the same way non-Indigenous veterans did.
