County of Grande Prairie sending letter of concern over proposed electoral boundary changes

Nov 12, 2025 | 10:58 AM

The County of Grande Prairie council is weighing in on proposals from the Alberta Electoral Boundaries Commission.

At their meeting Monday, council directed administration to send a letter of concern regarding the proposals to the Commission, the Northern Alberta Elected Leaders, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and Premier Danielle Smith.

An interim report from the Commission recommends the Central Peace-Notley and Peace River ridings combine into Peace River-Notley, running from the northern edge of Yellowhead County up to the northern boundary of the County of Northern Lights.

The changes would also move Mackenzie County and Paddle Prairie into a new riding and move Saddle Hills County from Central Peace-Notley to Grande Prairie-Wapiti.

Public meetings on the proposed changes are planned for January, and written submissions can also be sent between Nov. 3 and Dec. 19.

Grande Prairie MLA Nolan Dyck and Grande Prairie-Wapiti MLA Ron Wiebe were among nine MLAs that sent a letter of their own to the commission, hoping their feedback will be incorporated into the proposed changes.
