UPDATE:Grande Prairie Fire Department concludes response to fire at Grande Prairie Farmers’ Market

Update; 10:59 a.m. Nov. 22

The Grande Prairie Fire Department wrapped up its response to the fire at the Farmers Market around 2:30 a.m. Nov. 22.

Entering through the attic, crews were able to fully extinguish the fire and mitigate further losses.

Extensive fire damage was done to the roof and attic of the building, while smoke, heat and water damage are present throughout the interior.

The city says 25 firefighters, six heavy apparatus, and two support apparatus were required for the response, including a CGPRFS ladder crew and numerous off-duty GPFD members.

“The GPFD is grateful for the commitment the team showed last night, including numerous off-duty staff and the CGPRFS, who all worked with diligence and dedication, understanding the significance of this structure to the community,” said Fire Chief Mark VanWerkhoven.

The cause of the fire is at this time unknown and is currently under investigation.

Update: 1:01 a.m. Nov. 22, 2025

The City of Grande Prairie has released details regarding a fire at the Grande Prairie Farmers’ Market.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., Nov. 21, the Grande Prairie Fire Department arrived on the scene of a structure fire in the area of 101 St. and 101 Ave.

Excessive heat and fire prompted the use of ladder trucks to respond from the exterior of the building, and access holes were cut into the gables and roof.

Crews are reporting progress but say a sustained, overnight response will be required to fully extinguish the blaze.

The full extent of damages to the building is unknown; no other buildings are at risk.

The Everything GP newsroom has received reports from listeners of the Grande Prairie Fire Department’s presence on 101 Avenue, near the Grande Prairie Farmers’ Market.

Smoke appears to be coming from the building, and multiple Emergency vehicles are on scene.

There has been no word yet from the GPFD.

We will have more information as it becomes available.
