Two people dead after Thursday night collision on Highway 2

Spirit River RCMP say two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash Thursday night.

Mounties say at around 8:35 p.m. on Dec. 4, an SUV and a pickup collided on Highway 2 near Township Road 755.

A 46-year-old woman from Woking, who was driving the SUV, and a 39-year-old man from Wembley, who was driving the pickup, both died at the scene.

Police say two children, aged 5 and 7, who were in the SUV, were taken to hospital for evaluation.

RCMP say that preliminary findings suggest the pickup went out of control while trying to pass a semi and struck the SUV.

The investigation continues.
