Environment Canada says heavy snowfall possible for parts of the Peace

Dec 7, 2025 | 1:28 PM

UPDATE: The BC Peace and the MD of Lesser Slave River also now have similar warnings in place.

Environment Canada says it has issued what it calls a yellow warning for snowfall in parts of the Peace.

It covers Saddle Hills, Birch Hills, Clear Hills, Big Lakes, and Northern Sunrise Counties, the County of Northern Lights, and the MDs of Spirit River, Fairview, Smoky River, Peace and Opportunity.

The forecast says that snow starting near the B.C-Alberta boundary will spread east on Sunday, December 7.

Some areas could see 15-25 centimetres of snow, with two to four centimetres per hour possible. A yellow warning is issued when snowfall could be between 1.5 and 1.9 centimetres per hour.

The snow might continue into Tuesday, although there could be breaks at times says the weather office.

The warning also says visibility will be reduced and travel could be challenging.
