Four teams advance to men’s and women’s provincials after qualifiers in Grande Prairie

Three teams from Edmonton and one from St. Albert advanced to provincials out of the men’s and women’s qualifiers held at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre over the weekend.

The Peter Hlushak and Zach Davies teams from Edmonton advanced from the men’s side.

Local curler Varyk Doepker is the second on the Hlushak team. They went 3-0 to take the A Event qualifier.

Davies advanced with a 7-5 win over a team from Sherwood Park and Edmonton skipped by Sexsmith product Jaxon Hiebert in the B Event qualifier.

The Michelle Hartwell team from Edmonton and the Leslie Hammond rink from St. Albert advanced from the women’s side.

The Grande Prairie Curling Centre also hosted a zone qualifier over the weekend for the Alberta Winter Games.

The Lenox Maksymetz rink topped the standings with a 2-0 record. All three participating teams were from the Peace.

The centre will host a U18 Girls Provincial Qualifier on Saturday and Sunday.

There will be two teams from Grande Prairie, and one each from Chestermere and Red Deer, taking part.
