2027 trial dates set in Grande Prairie murder case

Alberta Justice says a trial for a Grande Prairie man charged in a 2024 murder will be held in 2027.

David John Seitsma will stand trial for first degree murder March 8-19, 2027, in Grande Prairie Court of King’s Bench. This will be a jury trial. A pre-trial conference is set for May 28, 2026.

Seitsma was charged after the March 13, 2024, death of 34-year-old Echer Marcial.

His body was found on Range Road 55 near Clairmont.

Seitsma was arrested on May 31, 2024, in Ontario.

Accused in Gift Lake murder to stand trial

Alberta Justice says the accused in a 2024 murder at Gift Lake has been ordered to stand trial.

Trial dates for Dakota Auger have not been set.

He is facing a charge of second-degree murder after the death of 41-year-old Bradley Lamouche of the Gift Lake Metis Settlement.

High Prairie RCMP said at the time that at around 2 a.m. on Aug. 23, 2024, they received a call about an unresponsive man in a vehicle.

Mounties said when they arrived that the man had “injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.”

Sentencing in stabbing case set for January

Alberta Justice says the accused charged after an incident where two kids suffered stab wounds will be sentenced in January.

The accused will be sentenced on Jan. 20, 2026, on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, plus a charge of arson: damage property of others in a separate arrest.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time that on Feb. 9, 2025, they were called in to assist EMS after a child suffered what police called a “serious non-life-threatening knife wound.” The child was taken to the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for treatment, then taken to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

Mounties said a second child had what they called “minor wounds from a knife.”

A court-ordered publication ban is in place for the name of the accused.

Suspended sentence, probation in drug case

Alberta Justice says another one of the five people charged in a 2023 drug arrest has been sentenced.

Hananluiza Alshawabkeh of Edmonton was given a suspended sentence and 12 months’ probation after pleading guilty to charges of trafficking a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking in Grande Prairie court. Five other charges were withdrawn.

Alshawabkeh and his co-accused were arrested after an investigation that started in the fall of 2022, which led to three searches in different places in Grande Prairie.

Police seized 87 cartons of illegal cigarettes, and what police thought at the time was nearly 1600 grams of cocaine, close to 950 grams of fentanyl and more than 3100 grams of methamphetamine.

Two other people, John Medina and Kaitlen Mulek, were previously given 42-month jail sentences each. Elwood Fraser was given a sentence of two years less a day in jail, with 18 months credit for pre-trial time spent in custody.

The other person charged, Faisel Huoseh, will stand trial in December 2026.
