Local hockey, curling qualifier this weekend, Nitehawk closed Friday

Storm

The Storm host Lloydminster Friday and Saturday.

Game times will be 7 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Storm are fifth in the North Division with 27 points, two back of Bonnyville but with three games in hand.

The Bobcats are in second place in the North Division, five points back of first-place Whitecourt and with one game in hand.

NWJHL

There is one game in the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday.

Fairview will be in Sexsmith.

Saturday, La Crete at the Wheat Kings, Beaverlodge in Fort St. John and Dawson Creek in Fairview.

All those games start at 8 p.m.

Sunday, La Crete in Beaverlodge, Dawson Creek in Sexsmith and Peace River in Fort St. John all start at 2 p.m.

NPHL

There are two games in the North Peace Hockey League Friday.

Falher is in Valleyview and Grande Prairie in Fox Creek.

Saturday, Valleyview in Grande Prairie, Manning in Spirit River and Fort St. John in Dawson Creek.

All these games start at 8:30 p.m

Curling

The Grande Prairie Curling Centre is hosting a U18 girls provincials qualifier Saturday and Sunday.

Four teams, two from Grande Prairie and one each from Red Deer and Chestermere, are taking part.

The first games start at 2 p.m. Saturday with the qualifier games at 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

Qualifiers move on to provincials Dec. 31-Jan. 4, in Airdrie.

Nitehawk closed Friday

Nitehawk is closed Friday because the forecast windchill is below -30.

The hill is still scheduled to be open from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Tube Zone is scheduled to be open from noon-2 p.m. and 2:30-4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Nitehawk will close if the windchill is below -30.
