Sturgeon Lake murder case to be in Grande Prairie court in January

Alberta Justice says three people charged with murder after a death at Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation will appear in Grande Prairie court in January.

Sara Dawn Aleisha Kappo, Teyanna Angel Rae Kappo and Dallas Goodswimmer will all appear in Court of King’s Bench on January 12.

All three were ordered to stand trial in late November in Valleyview court.

They were charged after the death of 36-year-old Aaron Bellcourt.

Valleyview RCMP said at the time that on November 8, 2023, they got a report of a man who had suffered what Mounties described as “serious lacerations” after being assaulted.

Bellcourt later died in hospital.

The three accused were arrested on May 24, 2024.

Preliminary hearing date set in Kinuso murder

Alberta Justice says a preliminary hearing in a Kinuso murder case will take place late in 2026.

The hearing for Anthony Frederick Knott will be held November 10, 2026, in Slave Lake court.

Knott was charged after the July 11, 2025, death of 34-year-old Randy Courteoreille of Swan River First Nation.

Faust RCMP said at the time that they were called in to help Lakeshore Regional Police with an active shooting.

Knott was arrested after the scene was contained.

Jail time for man with multiple arrests

Alberta Justice says a man charged in multiple arrests has pleaded guilty to some charges in Fairview court.

Malcolm Henry Testawits of no fixed address, admitted to more than a half-dozen counts on December 10 and was given a 29-month jail sentence to cover everything. He will get 115 days’ credit for time spent in custody before pleading guilty.

The charges included assaulting a peace officer, possession of stolen property, dangerous operation of a vehicle, and possession of a prohibited firearm related to an arrest on September 25, 2025. Eight other counts were withdrawn.

RCMP said at the time that they were investigating a suspect they called “a known prolific offender” who was wanted on warrants.

They tracked a vehicle onto some back roads in the Fairview area. Two suspects tried to run away but were arrested with the help of Police Dog Services. The vehicle had been stolen out of Peace River.

Alberta Justice says the second person arrested, Amy Lee Lacosse of no fixed address, will stand trial in March.

Testawits also admitted to charges of flight from a peace officer and operating a vehicle while prohibited in connection with another arrest.

Charges withdrawn in drugs, weapons arrest

Alberta Justice says nine charges against a man charged in a drugs and weapons arrest have been withdrawn.

The charges against Kyle Louis Bird included two of possession for the purpose of trafficking, plus several counts related to firearms. All charges were withdrawn December 10 in Grande Prairie court.

Bird was originally arrested on June 7, 2025.

Grande Prairie RCMP said they stopped a vehicle because the registered owner was wanted on outstanding warrants.

A search of the vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun that had been smuggled into Canada from Texas, methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone pills, and unstamped tobacco.

Jail time for man charged in stolen property arrests

Alberta Justice says a Dawson Creek man charged in a pair of stolen property arrests has been given a 51-month jail sentence to cover everything.

Daniel Davidsen pleaded guilty to charges of possession of stolen property over $5000, resisting a peace officer, operation of a vehicle while prohibited and failure to comply with a release order.

RCMP said at the time that on May 3, 2025, they were called to a home in Crystal Ridge about a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle and the license plate turned out to be stolen.

Mounties found a man getting into the vehicle and trying to take off when they arrived, but he was stopped by other officers.

He was arrested after trying to run away.

A search of the vehicle and the home turned up small quantities of ketamine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and MDMA, along with a press used to make pills.

Davidsen also admitted to a charge of possession of stolen property related to a 2024 arrest.

He will be given 419 days credit for time already spent in custody.

Jail time for accused with multiple arrests

Alberta Justice says a Grande Prairie man has been given a 450-day jail sentence after pleading guilty in multiple cases he’d had before the court.

Dwayne Olson admitted to charges of flight from a peace officer and operating a vehicle while prohibited in one matter and possession of stolen property, operating a vehicle while prohibited and resisting a peace officer in another.

He was given 271 days credit for time already spent in custody.

The first case was related to an incident from May 17 of this year. Police tried to do a traffic stop on a car they said was being driven recklessly. The driver sped away at what police called “dangerous speeds,” but they were able to identify the driver.

The second guilty plea is from an arrest on May 23. Mounties had kept surveillance on the car from the first incident, a car that turned out to be stolen.

The driver was arrested after trying to get away on foot and steal another vehicle.

Olson and another man will also stand trial in March in relation to an identity theft and fraud case.

Jail sentence for Grimshaw woman after guilty plea to failure to comply charges

Alberta Justice says a woman from Grimshaw was given a 78-day jail sentence in Peace River court after pleading guilty to several failure to comply charges.

Sarah Dawn Hewitt pleaded guilty to a total of four charges related to multiple arrests.

RCMP said at the time that on October 26, 2025, they got a report of a wanted female.

A suspect was found hiding on a property.

Mounties said at the time that some of the charges were related to taking off an Electronic Monitoring Device.
