City reminding drivers of parking bans

Dec 17, 2025 | 12:40 PM

Snowfall is already above the monthly average in Grande Prairie, and more is expected in the coming days.

The City of Grande Prairie would like to remind residents that winter parking bans are now in effect on permanent snow routes on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

People are to remove their vehicles from Priority 1 & 2 roads so crews can clear snow fully. These roads are main arterial roads, transit routes, and roads used by emergency services.

The city says these parking bans matter so that roads are evenly cleared from curb to curb, which improves driving conditions for all.

Parking bans are declared after significant snowfall or during major snow-clearing work.

When there are windrows, parking is not permitted on any roadway.

Temporary parking bans in neighbourhoods come into effect based on the snow-clearing schedule. These bans are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on your assigned day.

So far, the city has received over 36 centimetres of snowfall this month. Transportation crews are working 24 hours a day through the holiday period to ensure the 588 km of roads inside the city are maintained.

The city suggests residents report concerns with snow and ice on roadways by using the city’s online reporting tool, checking the interactive map to see neighbourhoods being cleared of snow in real time, and signing up to receive text reminders the evening before your neighbourhood is to get snow removed.
