Records set during Alberta Open Farm Days
Officials with Alberta Open Farm Days say records for visitor and sales numbers were set during this year’s edition held in August.
They say the various host farms attracted a total of 52,783 visitors and that some host farms had record attendance and record on-farm spending.
On-farm sales across Alberta came in at $331,676, pushing the sales total for all 13 years the event has been held to over $2 million.
“The money generated from on-farm sales reflects visitors’ growing appreciation for agriculture and the products farms offer,” says Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies CEO Tim Carson, in a release from Alberta Open Farm Days. “This level of spending shows a strong willingness to invest locally. Purchasing directly from producers allows the public to connect with the farm gate and gain a firsthand understanding of where their food comes from.”
