Service disruption at Beaverlodge ED Christmas Day

Dec 24, 2025 | 12:00 PM

Alberta Health Services is letting residents know of a service disruption for the Beaverlodge Municipal Hospital’s Emergency Department this week.

The temporary service advisory is for Thursday, Dec. 25 at 8 a.m. until Friday, Dec. 26 at 8 a.m.

There will be no on site-physician during this 24-hour time frame.

During this time, nurses will be on-site in the ED to provide urgent triage, assessments, and referrals to patients in alternate ED’s in neighbouring communities.

If you need 9-1-1, medical emergency calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities like the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital.

Virtual Emergency Physician coverage may be available for all or part of this service advisory. The Virtual Emergency Physician program uses an experienced ED physician to remotely support facilities temporarily without available on-site ED physician support. Site clinical staff can connect with an AHS physician by telephone or videoconference for ED patients with non-life-threatening issues. This off-site virtual physician can collaborate with local staff, speak with patients, order tests and medications, and transfer or discharge patients.

Community members are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7 for non-emergency health-related questions. Depending on their needs, patients may also be aware of services available through local pharmacies.
