Fort Vermillion RCMP receive sham kidnapping call

Mounties in Fort Vermillion say a report of a possible kidnapping from a complainant was false.

On Sunday, Jan. 4, just after 5 p.m., RCMP received a call from a woman about the kidnapping incident and how there may be other reported victims in a vehicle she had escaped on the Tall Cree Nation.

The RCMP coordinated a police response with another neighbouring detachment and located the vehicle with the occupants.

As a result of a police investigation, it has been determined there was no truth to the allegations made, no offences committed, and there was no danger.

Mounties say they are aware of social media posts online circulating to be on the lookout for the “suspect vehicle”, and are asking that everyone disregard these posts about this incident.
