Jan 6, 2026 | 5:55 AM

Wabasca RCMP say in December, officers responded to a fatal collision involving a pedestrian.

On Dec. 15, shortly after midnight, officers responded to a truck-pedestrian collision at the Mistassiniy and Opportunity Drive intersection.

An investigation revealed a 40-year-old Wabasca resident was lying on the road when he was hit by the truck.

The driver then stopped and waited for police to arrive.

The pedestrian was announced dead at the hospital, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Mounties are sending their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.

Alberta RCMP are also sending out a warning to residents, urging drivers use caution during times of extreme winter conditions.

Between December and early January, the number of fatal collisions (20) has already passed the ten-year average (16.7).
