ASIRT investigating use of force by High Level RCMP Dec. 23

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an incident where a man was injured while in custody of the High Level RCMP.

On Dec. 23, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m. Mounties located a stolen vehicle abandoned in Bushe River and arrested a man nearby while searching for a suspect.

The man was brought to the High Level RCMP Detachment for processing, and during the booking process was reportedly struck by an officer and sustained an injury to his face.

The Police Review Commission has directed ASIRT to investigate the event as a level 1 matter, defined as a case involving serious injury, death or serious or sensitive allegations relating to the actions of an officer.

The investigation is still ongoing, and no further information will be shared by ASIRT at this time.
