Scottie Barnes makes game-winning free throw as Raptors top 76ers 116-115 in overtime

TORONTO — Scottie Barnes made a free throw with 0.8 seconds left on the clock as the Toronto Raptors beat the Philadelphia 76ers 116-115 in a wild overtime victory on Sunday.

Barnes finished with 31 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as the undermanned Raptors (24-16) eked out a win in a game with 16 lead changes.

Rookie centre Collin Murray-Boyles had a double-double with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Jamal Shead had 22 points and Immanuel Quickley added 20.

Tyrese Maxey drilled a three-pointer with 20 seconds left to play in the fourth quarter for what seemed to be the game-clinching basket for Philadelphia (21-16), but the Raptors managed to force extra time.

Maxey had a game-high 38 points and added five assists and four rebounds in a game that, by moments, felt like a duel with Barnes.

VJ Edgecombe added 17 points for the Sixers.

Barnes was questionable with a sprained right knee on Saturday’s personnel report but was upgraded to active two hours before tipoff.

Fellow Raptors starters Brandon Ingram (right thumb sprain), Jakob Poeltl (low back strain) and RJ Barrett (left ankle sprain) of Mississauga, Ont., were all out.

Head coach Darko Rajakovic said Ingram and Barrett were considered day-to-day and could be back Monday when Toronto hosts the 76ers again.

Joel Embiid (left knee injury management) and Paul George (left knee soreness) were both scratches for the 76ers, with the latter being removed from the lineup just minutes before tipoff.

Toronto’s injury woes took another hit in the first quarter when Ja’Kobe Walter left the game with a right-hip pointer.

76ers: With the two teams exchanging one-point leads in the final two minutes of the fourth, the game became a duel between Maxey and Barnes. Maxey scored 11 of Philadelphia’s final 16 points through the end of the fourth and into overtime.

Raptors: A sloppy third quarter with unforced errors cost Toronto a 14-point lead. The Raptors’ three-point shooting was poor throughout the game, going 5 for 32 (15.6 per cent) from beyond the arc. Toronto also struggled at the free-throw line, going 29 for 39 (74.4 per cent).

KEY MOMENT

Maxey drilled a 29-foot three-pointer with 20.1 seconds left in the fourth, seemingly clinching a 107-103 Philadelphia victory, but Quickley and Shead made jump shots in the remaining time to tie the game 107-107 and force overtime.

KEY STAT

The Raptors improved to 7-0 this season when shooting below 26 per cent from three-point range.
