Environment Canada says the mid-January warm spell continued on Wednesday, Jan. 14, with more record highs across the province.

Grande Prairie was one of many areas around Alberta that had their highest temperatures reached ever on record for the day.

In the Swan City, the new maximum recorded temperature for Jan. 14 was 8.7 degrees Celsius, beating the 2014 record of 8.6 degrees Celsius.

Other places in northern Alberta also saw new records; Peace River reached 6.9 degrees Celsius which passed 2025’s record of 6.1 degrees, and Red Earth Creek hit 10.9 degrees beating 2025’s 7.9 degrees record.

The warmest place in all of Alberta on Jan. 14, was 19.5 degrees in Claresholm.

Environment Canada forecasts the warm spell to stick around a bit longer, before dipping back down into seasonal normals next week.
