Storm host Drumheller for a weekend back-to-back

Jan 16, 2026 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Storm are back in action at home tomorrow when they host the Drumheller Dragons for a back-to-back.

After three consecutive wins over Fort McMurray last weekend, the Storm now sit at fourth in the north, one point behind both Lloydminster and Fort Mac (44), who are tied for second, while Whitecourt (51) leads the division.

“The guys going into the weekend knew what was at stake and knew it was a big weekend, we needed those points, and so we just worked (hard),” said forward Zachary Wilson, who recorded a goal and an assist over that stretch, to go along with 17 penalty minutes.

Teammate and fellow forward Chase Christensen, who had a goal during their series with the MOB added, “Yeah, everyone’s definitely a little banged up after playing Fort Mac, but I think we’re excited and ready to go beat Drumheller, they’re one of the better teams down south, so it’s huge games (for us).”

This will be the start of the back half of a six-game stretch at Bonnett’s for the Storm, which continues to lead all Alberta junior A rinks in attendance, including those who left the AJHL for the BCHL.

Storm forward Will Harris, who’s been with the club since the 2022-23 season, said Storm fans are “amazing.”

“Going to other rinks (it’s not the same), you can’t beat coming back home and getting the fan support that we have. (Since) My first year here, support has started to climb even more; it’s just awesome to have those (dedicated fans).”

Bonnett’s energy sees an average of 1,483 Storm fans a night, with a total of 22,245 already this year.

Those totals will only grow as the Storm have twelve games left in Grande Prairie this regular season, with the two set to take place this weekend on both Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and a Sunday matinee, starting at 2 p.m.
