Residents reminded of community sandbox

Jan 24, 2026 | 9:00 AM

After a recent warm spell and below zero tempatures, now returning to the region, Grande Prairie residents are being reminded of free sand available outside City Service Centre.

Residents can access the sandbox 24/7 and are just asked to bring their own shovel or bucket; a limit of two five-gallon buckets per person has been set.

The City says sand can then be used to manage icy sidewalks and paths, in hopes of supporting “safer travel around the community.”

The City also notes that crews are focusing on ice mitigation, and if anyone sees any areas that need to be addressed, contact AccessGP.
