Local sports for this weekend

Storm

The Storm host Camrose Friday night at 7 and Saturday night at 6. This will be the team’s Parent Weekend.

The Storm are in second place in the AJHL’s North Division with 53 points, four points behind first-place Whitecourt and one point ahead of third-place Fort McMurray.

Grande Prairie has two games in hand on the Oil Barons, but the Wolverines have one game in hand on the Storm.

NWJHL 

In the Northwest Junior Hockey League Friday, Peace River will be in Fairview, and Sexsmith travels to Fort St. John.

Saturday, Beaverlodge in Fairview and Fort St. John in Peace River. 

All these games will start at 8 p.m.

The Wheat Kings are in La Crete for a 7 p.m. face-off Saturday and a 1:30 p.m. puck drop on Sunday.

NPHL

There are three games in the North Peace Hockey League Friday.

Grande Prairie visits in Manning, Spirit River in High Prairie and Dawson Creek at Falher.

Saturday, Falher in Grande Prairie, Fox Creek in Dawson Creek and High Prairie in Fort St. John.

All these games start at 8:30 p.m.

Sunday, Fort St. John in Manning will start at 2:45 p.m.

There was one game on Thursday night. Valleyview won 3-1 in Spirit River.

Wolves

The Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves volleyball teams will visit Lakeland Friday at 6 and 8 p.m. and Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.

Basketball is off this weekend.  

Futsal will open the season at home this weekend.

The women play NAIT at noon on Saturday and Red Deer at 5 p.m. The Red Deer and Concordia women’s teams play each other at 7:30.

Sunday, NAIT plays Red Deer at 9 a.m., and Concordia faces the Wolves at 11:30.

On the men’s side, the Wolves take on NAIT at 1:15 p.m. and Red Deer Polytechnic at  6:15 p.m. Concordia and NAIT meet at 3:45. Red Deer and Concordia at 8:45.

Sunday, NAIT and Red Deer play at 10:15 a.m., then Concordia and NWP at 12:45.

Ski Hills

Nitehawk ski hill is open from until 9:30 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Tube Zone is open from 5-7 and 7:30 to 9:30 on Friday, noon-2 and 2:30-4:30 Saturday and Sunday.   

Whispering Pines Ski Hill is open Friday through Sunday from 10-4. The rental shop and chalet open at 9 a.m.

Spring Lake Ski Hill is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Little Smoky Ski Area is open from 10 a.m until 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Fairview Ski Hill is open from 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.  Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

Misery Mountain is open Friday from 4-9 p.m., 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
