Extra Alberta ER doctor shifts delayed amid talks between government, physicians
Alberta’s recently announced effort to add physician shifts to help triage patients in crowded emergency rooms has been delayed.
The program was to have started over the weekend.
The head of the Alberta Medical Association says doctors want to participate but says there are issues to be worked out including pay, billing, liability and paperwork.
President Dr. Brian Wirzba says he’s optimistic a deal can be reached in a week or two but says the deal has to work for both sides.
