More than 100 wild pigs caught under Wild Boar Program says Alberta government

Feb 7, 2026 | 10:00 AM

The province says professional trappers caught 108 wild pigs under Alberta’s Wild Boar Control Program in 2025.

A release from the province says there were 72 reports made through the Squeal on Pigs! online reporting system.

On December 1 last year, the province brought in charges meant to control wild pigs.

Those include making it illegal to obtain or transport these animals without a permit.

It is also illegal to hunt or trap wild boar, other than on someone doing it on their own land. Professional wild board trappers are employed by Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation after previously working under Alberta Pork.

Any wild boar kills must be reported.
