Alberta’s government says it will introduce 18 bills during the spring sitting, which got underway Tuesday.

Government house leader Joseph Schow, who is also the immigration minister, says one bill will regulate international recruiters and increase oversight of those hiring foreign workers.

Another bill is to prohibit MAID in Alberta for select groups, including people with a mental illness as their sole underlying condition.

The government also plans to table a bill to create a provincial version of Ottawa’s major projects office, which Schow says will streamline project approvals.

Opposition N-D-P Leader Naheed Nenshi says the government isn’t focused on what’s important to Albertans.

Nenshi says Albertans want to see investment in education and health care.

Alberta’s government is also set to unveil its budget on Thursday.

The budget is expected to include a multi-billion dollar deficit.
