Highway 986 reopens, road conditions “still dangerous”

Feb 26, 2026 | 11:01 AM

Peace River RCMP say Highway 986 near Little Buffalo is now reopened after a semi roll-over this morning.

However, Mounties say road conditions are still dangerous, and drivers should proceed with caution.

A yellow snow squall warning does remain in effect across much of the Peace, including Grande Prairie.

With a yellow snow squall warning in place, Peace River RCMP is warning drivers to avoid all non-essential travel.

Mounties say residents are reporting whiteout conditions all over the Peace River area, and recommend everyone avoid all unnecessary travel.

Mounties are currently responding to a rolled semi on Highway 986 near Little Buffalo, and say they will provide an update once the highway re-opens.

Residents can stay up to date with current road conditions using 511 Alberta, or Environment Canada for weather updates.
