WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg man is facing charges after RCMP allege he posted multiple online threats targeting Prime Minister Mark Carney.

RCMP say a national security investigation began in January into a user on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

They say along with threats targeting Carney, the account also made posts inciting hatred towards Jewish and Muslim Communities.

A 55-year-old was arrested last month and charged with three counts of uttering threats to cause death.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court late next week.

A spokesperson for Carney’s office referred questions back to the RCMP.
