Twelve-year sentence in sexual assault case involving former Grande Cache EA

Mar 3, 2026 | 6:01 AM

Alberta Justice says a 12-year jail sentence has been handed down in a sexual assault and child pornography case involving a former educational assistant out of Grande Cache.

JJ Lenin Butler was given the sentence on February 27. Butler had earlier been found guilty at trial in Hinton Court of King’s Bench of three charges of sexual assault and one charge of possession of child pornography.

Grande Cache RCMP said at the time that on April 18, 2023, they got a report that “two minors had been sexually exploited by an educational assistant in Grande Cache.”

The Canadian Press reported in September that two teenage girls were assaulted; one of them twice. CP also reported that he was convicted of assaulting another teenager ten years before that.

The victim’s names are protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
