Four Peace Country municipalities sending resolutions to the RAM spring convention

Resolutions from four municipalities in the Peace Country will be up for discussion at the Rural Municipalities of Alberta spring convention.

It will run from March 16 to 18 in Edmonton.

The County of Grande Prairie is bringing forth a resolution called Equitable Electricity Distribution Pricing Model.

It asks the association to lobby the provincial government for changes to eliminate a pricing disparity across Alberta.

The text of the resolution says that in 2024, distribution costs were $387 a year for the average home in the EPCOR distribution area and $1211 in the ATCO distribution area.

The County of Northern Lights has a resolution asking the government not to consolidate rural ridings for the provincial election and to make more use of allowable population variances when setting electoral boundaries.

There is also one from the MD of Peace on including veterinarians and animal health technicians in the federal student loan forgiveness program if these students agree to work in a rural area.

There is also one from Big Lakes County asking that municipalities be included in the approval processes done by the Natural Resources Conservation Board, Alberta Utilities Commission and Alberta Energy Regulator.

Resolutions will be discussed and voted on on Tuesday afternoon. There are a total of 13 listed on the agenda.

RAM will take any that pass to the provincial government.
