Fairview post-secondary campus to stay open

Mar 17, 2026 | 2:52 PM

A release from the provincial government says the Northwestern Polytechnic campus in Fairview will be staying open.

The government says Northern Lakes College will become what it calls “the new post-secondary learning provider at the Fairview Campus.”

NWP had said it was going to close the school this summer.

The province says Northern Lakes College will offer “a mix of in-person apprenticeship and health care programs, along with a range of online learning opportunities.”

The province adds that Advanced Education will work with Northern Lakes College and NWP to make sure students are able to continue their schoolwork with minimal disruption.

The Fairview Regional College Transition Committee says in a social media post that “today’s announcement lays important groundwork for building a renewed institution that supports rural communities and Indigenous learners for decades to come.”

A community meeting has been called for Mar. 23 for people to share ideas on what comes next for the Fairview campus.

It will start at 7 p.m. at the Dunvegan Inn & Suites.
