Peace River RCMP say a man has been charged after an incident with a firearm.

Mounties say that on March 16, they got a report of someone pointing a firearm in Woodland Cree First Nation. Mounties did not say who or what the gun was pointed at.

Police from Peace River and Red Earth Creek, along with the Police Dog Services, were called in.

The suspect took off from the scene, starting a pursuit.

The suspect ran into some bush and was located by the police dog.

Police say the firearm in question was later found at a Woodland Cree First Nation home.

Thirty-five-year old Kyle Edward Ominayak of Cadotte Lake is facing charges that include assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, flight from police, and resisting police. He was also brought in on some outstanding warrants.

Ominayak has been remanded and is due in Peace River court March 23.
