Sport Excellence Awards, hockey provincials in High Prairie, ski hills this weekend

Sport Excellence Awards

The Sport Excellence Awards will be given out on Friday.

The awards are being given out in 14 categories.

The Grande Prairie Regional Sport Connection says there are 45 nominees in those 14 categories.

The awards cover accomplishments from 2025 in the area from Fox Creek and Slave Lake to the B.C. and Northwest Territories boundaries.

Hockey Provincials

High Prairie will host the U18B hockey provincials Friday through Sunday.

Games started at 9 a.m. Friday and start again at 9 a.m. Saturday and go all day both days.

The semi-finals start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, with the gold medal game at 3 p.m.

Eight teams are taking part.

Ski Hills

A lot of the local ski hills will close for the season after this weekend.

Nitehawk ski hill is open from 5:30-9:30 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The Tube Zone is closed  Friday and is open from noon to 2 and 2:30-4:30 Saturday and Sunday.

Whispering Pines Ski Hill will be open  Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Spring Lake Ski Hill is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Little Smoky Ski Area is open from 10 a.m until 4 p.m. daily through Sunday. 

Fairview Ski Hill is open from  11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Misery Mountain is open from  4-9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

All but Misery Mountain have already said that this is the final weekend of the season.
