CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have signed defenceman Axel Hurtig to a three-year entry-level contract, the NHL club announced Wednesday.

The deal carries an average annual value of US$990,000.

The 20-year-old Swede had a career-best 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 64 regular-season games as captain of the Calgary Hitmen this season.

He has a goal and two assists so far in the Western Hockey League’s playoffs as the Hitmen have a 3-0 lead over Brandon heading into Game 4 of their first-round series Thursday.
