High Prairie RCMP investigating two shootings from the same day

Apr 8, 2026 | 6:00 AM

High Prairie RCMP responded to two shootings last Tuesday, (Mar. 31) that they believe to be unrelated.

The first took place at 3:54 p.m. near the High Prairie Courthouse and resulted in a victim sustaining serious non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital by EMS.

Mounties say that at this time, no arrests have been made, but “possible suspects have been identified.”

The other took place at 9:02 p.m. in Atikameg and resulted in a shelter-in-place in that community.

Officers originally responded to an attempted murder report following a dispute at a residence, as the suspect shot at the victim, missed, and then fled in a pickup truck with three other individuals.

Mounties located the vehicle as it fled north on Highway 750.

During the pursuit, the suspects allegedly “threw objects, including fireworks, towards police vehicles,” before they stopped and abandoned the truck.

The shelter-in-place was then put in effect for Atikameg, and Mounties noted that there were no firearms in the vehicle recently abandoned by the suspect; Police Dog Services were then deployed, and three of the four suspects were arrested.

Thirty-one-year-old Cadotte Lake resident, Lita Destiny Christian, and 24-year-old Pavel Kozlov Laboucan, and 30-year-old Hannah Lacey Cardinal, both of Atikameg, received six charges each and were all remanded into custody with a court date set for Tuesday, Apr. 7:

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Possession of a weapon without a license
  • Two counts of pointing a firearm
  • Discharging firearm
  • Careless use of firearm

A warrant was also issued for 20-year-old Little Buffalo resident Deshawn Laboucan who fled from the truck that night.

Laboucan has been charged with the same six offences as the other four, along with an additional four charges:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Attempted murder with a firearm
  • Discharge a firearm with intent
  • Unauthorized Possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle

Anyone with information about this incident or Laboucan’s whereabouts is asked to contact the High Prairie detachment at 780-523-3378 or Crime Stoppers.
