Enforcement Services shares window tint do’s & don’ts

Apr 13, 2026 | 11:44 AM

Enforcement Services is reminding drivers of provincial window tint rules, as not all drivers may be aware of regulations.

Tint is not permitted on front windows or windshields, with violators facing fines ranging from $81 to $200 per window.

However, tint is allowed on rear side windows and the back rear window, if the vehicle has both working side mirrors.

Peace Officer Sergeant Ryan Hoffman says, “these rules are in place for safety,” as “tint on front windows can reduce a driver’s ability to see clearly and can also make it harder for others, such as pedestrians or other drivers, to see and communicate with them.”

“Clear visibility is essential for drivers to see pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles, particularly in low-light or poor weather conditions.”

GPES encourages anyone curious about whether their vehicle will comply with these regulations to check with officers before making any changes.
