Wildfire in Whitecourt Forest Area currently out of control

A wildfire is currently burning out of control in the Whitecourt Forest area.

The fire, named WWF015, was detected Sunday, May 10, and is currently 2.5 hectares in size.

It is burning northeast of Whitecourt near 2100 Road.

Firefighters are currently working to contain the blaze, with assistance from helicopters and air tankers, while a fire advisory remains in effect for the area.

Another wildfire, WWF012, was detected May 2 in the area and is now under control at 66 hectares in size.
