“This recognition reflects the strength of our relationships with families across the Division,” said Joan Nellis, Board Chair of Grande Prairie Public School Division. “When parents are meaningfully engaged and supported, our entire system benefits. We are proud of the focused and ongoing work of our administrators to strengthen the collaborative cultures within our school councils.”

Additionally, former GPPSD Superintendent Alexander McDonald was awarded the 2026 Friend of ASCA Award in recognition of his efforts encouraging school councils to access resources available through their ASCA membership and championing parent voice and authentic engagement.

“Sandy’s leadership set a strong foundation for parent engagement in our division,” said James Robinson, Superintendent of Schools. “He modelled respect for parent voice and worked to ensure school councils were empowered, informed, and connected. His impact continues to be felt across GPPSD.”

The ASCA issues these awards as part of their ongoing commitment to celebrate strong partnerships and student success across Alberta.
