Alberta Wildfire reminding producers to be fire safe

May 19, 2026 | 12:24 PM

As agricultural spring work takes place across the province, the risk of farm wildfires poses a risk due to dry conditions in fields.

While it is often wet and cooler in the seeding months, dry vegetation and crop residue is highly flammable. Alberta Wildfire is wanting to remind farmers to take extra precautions to prevent accidental fires.

The provincial body for wildfire management says producers can help prevent unwanted flames by:

  • Keeping machinery clean and clearing out any debris around hot spots and pinch points
  • Maintaining electrical components and equipment
  • Greasing mobile components of equipment according to manufacturer’s recommendations
  • Regularly cleaning air filters
  • Regularly checking coolant and oil levels
  • Keeping a full, up to date ABC fire extinguisher in or near the cab and know how to use it in case of emergency
