$5,000 raised for PWPSD students through Iceberg Hockey Tournament
Local school children in the Peace Wapiti Public School Division will benefit from a recent donation intended for youth mental health resources.
The Iceberg Hockey Tournament has gifted the division with $5,000 for kids to get ed-psych evaluations at a faster pace than normal. Some assessment wait times span over multiple years. Testing can cost up to $2,500 for a single evaluation. It is delivered by trained psychologists from the Peace Collaborative Services Rehabilitation team.
PWPSD Deputy Superintendent Darren Young said in a news release, “These funds will help deliver the necessary educational psychological evaluations to students in our division who would otherwise go without.”
The tournament was held at the J.D.A County Sportsplex on March 27-29, with ten teams of players between the ages of 13 and 14 from both Alberta and B.C. involved in the three-day competition.
