"good sign of things to come"

Female minor hockey club rebranding to Wolves’ navy & pink

The Peace Country Female Athletic Club will be transitioning away from the Storm logo and colourway next season.

As part of a new partnership with Northwestern Polytechnic, the PCFAC will now don the Wolves’ logo, along with their pink and navy colour scheme.

According to the Club’s director Tanya Chomyc this move “is about building something bigger than hockey.”

“Together, we are creating stronger connections within our community, expanding opportunities for female athletes, and helping provide a clear and exciting pathway for the next generation of players in the Peace Country.”

NWP President and CEO Dr. Vannessa Sheane says the region “is home to exceptional talent,” and this is a “good sign of things to come.”

“This partnership is a sign of good things to come, reflecting NWP Athletics’ commitment to investing in local athletes and supporting young women who pursue high-level hockey while staying close to home.”

This move was only made possible after NWP’s recent announcement about debuting an ACAC Women’s hockey team for the 2026/2027 season, with Dr. Sheane saying then, they chose women’s hockey for a reason; “Quite honestly, there are more opportunities for male athletes to play after they exit minor hockey.”

Now, this move is just one of many the polytechnic will be taking to honour their commitment to growing women’s hockey in northern Alberta, with NWP Wolves Athletic Director James Phillips adding, “We are excited to support the next generation of female hockey players in the Peace Country and to help foster an environment where athletes can develop, compete, and represent their region with pride.”
