Vigen claims Day 2 money at Grande Prairie Stompede

Hometown chuckwagon driver Chanse Vigen posted the fastest time of the night at the Grande Prairie Stompede.

It was 30 degrees Thursday (May 28) night out at Evergreen Park and excellent track conditions to boot.

Vigen claimed top spot of the evening after a penalty free run of 1:14.68 in the tenth and final heat.

Vigen edged the 2024 Stompede Champion Jamie Laboucane out of the top spot by just one-hundredth of a second. Rounding out the top five of the night was followed by Logan Gorst, Jordie Fike, and Kurt Bensmiller.

Despite finishing second, Laboucane’s performance moved him into the lead in theoverall aggregate, with a two-day time of 2:29.79. Opening-night winner Rae Croteau Jr. sits second overall, followed by Darcy Flad and Logan Gorst in third and fourth respectively.

The top driver in the aggregate following Saturday night’s performance will earn the Ralph Vigen Memorial Award along with the use of a 2026 GMC truck for one year, courtesy of Summit Fleet.

The top four drivers in the aggregate standings after Saturday will advance to Sunday’s $40,000 Championship Final Heat, where the winner will collect the championship title and the 2026 Grande Prairie Stompede crown.

The running of the WPCA is during the Grand Entry Evening Show each night at Evergreen Park, which starts at 5:00 p.m.
