Arson arrest made in connection with Wednesday’s house fire

Jun 5, 2026 | 10:57 AM

Wednesday’s (June 3) row house fire in the City has been deemed an arson.

The Grande Prairie Fire Department says 21 firefighters and 5 apparatus responded at 8:17 p.m. to a row house with a blaze coming from the common attic space.

Crews “began immediate life-safety and incident control actions” and worked to put out the fire, having it under control within an hour.

Once RCMP arrived on the scene, witnesses pointed out a man who they believed was responsible for the blaze.

He was then arrested and taken into custody.

Dwayne Forsyth, a 50-year-old resident of Grande Prairie, had seven charges laid against him:

  • Arson
  • Mischief
  • Five counts of mischief causing danger to life

A court date has been set for Monday, June 8.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but all five occupants have been displaced.
