Fire restriction downgrades to advisory in County of Grande Prairie

Jun 5, 2026 | 11:21 AM

Officials with the County of Grande Prairie’s Regional Fire Service say effective Friday June 5, at 3:00 p.m., the current fire restriction will be downgraded to an advisory thanks to recent rainfall.

This also includes the towns of Sexsmith, Beaverlodge, and Wembley.

Under the fire advisory, fire permits may be restricted. Burning is not allowed when winds are forecasted or reach 12km/h or higher.

According to Alberta Wildfire, the wildfire danger rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Area is now low.

There are four active blazes in the GPFA. All are under control, less than 5 hectares in size each, and do not pose a threat to any communities. Alberta Wildfire is fully responding to these lightning-caused fires.
