Recall petitions against Alberta NDP MLA, former UCP cabinet minister dismissed

Jun 10, 2026 | 3:57 PM

For the first time since October there are no active recall petitions looking to oust Alberta politicians from their seats in the legislature.

Elections Alberta says the two outstanding petitions, targeting an Opposition NDP member and a former United Conservative cabinet minister, have come to an end.

The agency says the petition targeting NDP member Marie Renaud was withdrawn while the campaign against Peter Guthrie was deemed invalid after nothing was submitted by Wednesday’s deadline.

The petitioner targeting Renaud had said in their application that she needed to be removed from office for “pushing gender ideology” in schools.

The campaign against Guthrie, who now leads the Progressive Tory Party, had cited old legal proceedings and his inability to help.

It means all 28 recall petitions issued since last fall were unsuccessful, withdrawn, or deemed invalid.
