Sentencing in robbery case

Alberta Justice says one of the three people charged after a robbery in Grande Prairie has been sentenced.

Ronald Caplette was given a 1,095-day sentence in Grande Prairie court after pleading guilty to a robbery charge.

He and two others were charged after a robbery at a downtown bar on August 4, 2025.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time that a man went into the bar, pulled out an imitation firearm and demanded cash. He also threatened the employees.

He ran away after getting some cash.

The other two accused, Karson Clease and Saddarta Stanyer, have preliminary hearings set for December and August of this year, respectively.

All three are from Grande Prairie.

Four-year sentence in drug trafficking case

Alberta Justice says a Grande Prairie man charged in a 2025 drug arrest has been given a 48-month jail sentence.

Chad Simonson was sentenced after pleading guilty to a pair of possession for the purpose of trafficking charges.

Three other counts were withdrawn.

Simonson was charged after a vehicle stop in Clairmont on June 21, 2025.

RCMP said at the time they found drug paraphernalia. That led to the driver being arrested and the vehicle searched.

The search turned up more than four kilograms of methamphetamine, over 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, and $11,000 in cash.

Jail time for one of two people charged in drug arrest

Alberta Justice says one of the two people charged in a 2025 drug arrest in Grande Prairie has been given a jail sentence of nearly two-and-a-half years.

Floyd Bradley Dick of Grande Prairie was given an 850-day sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking. A dozen other charges were withdrawn.

Dick was arrested after a traffic stop on a vehicle involved in an earlier police chase on May 6, 2025, at a Grande Prairie gas station.

RCMP members saw some unstamped tobacco.

That led to a search that turned up more unstamped tobacco, 34 grams of cocaine, 15 ml of GHB, what police called “a small amount of methamphetamine, a switchblade, and $1,100 cash.

A stay of proceedings is in place in the case against the second person arrested at the time, Rachel Elizabeth Donovan, also of Grande Prairie.

Stay of proceedings in place on child pornography, firearms charges

Alberta Justice says a stay of proceedings is in place for one of the people charged in a 2023 child pornography investigation.

Dwayne Dyer was arrested on two child pornography charges and one of careless use or storage of a firearm.

He was one of five people arrested in a 2023 ALERT investigation into child exploitation called Operation ICE Tundra. It was started after law enforcement noticed increased case referrals from Grande Prairie.

The other four all pleaded guilty and were given jail sentences that ranged from six months to 18 months.

Second accused given jail time after High Level drugs, weapons investigation

Alberta Justice says a 2024 drug investigation by High Level RCMP has led to jail time for a second accused.

Tyson Lance Kondra-Martel was given a two-year jail sentence after pleading guilty to a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Some other charges were withdrawn.

He was one of four people arrested after a search of a Bushe River home turned up firearms, two machetes, two other knives, and drugs.

RCMP had gone to the home looking for another man wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Another man charged in this arrest, Milton Junior Salopree, was earlier found guilty of a single charge of possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, but found not guilty on 25 other charges.

He was given an 18-month jail term.

Charges were withdrawn against the other two accused.

Charges dismissed in weapons arrest

Alberta Justice says weapons charges originating out of High Prairie against a Peace River man have been dismissed.

The charges against Frank Ross Whitehead were dismissed in late May in High Prairie court.

He had been arrested on October 21, 2025, at a home in Cadotte Lake.

RCMP said at the time they were looking for a man wanted on a warrant.
